Trend Tuesday: Words On the Sleeves

Since Vivienne Westwood made slogan T-shirts infamously fierce, political, and punk in the 70s, the logomania has been floating around on the runway and the streets. It has developed from the simple form of big branding logo to statements that convey different meanings. Ironically, in the set of a time when minimalism is praised as the cure of pattern overload, statement clothing is all the rage again.

The comeback of slogan shirts is influenced by streetwear and hip-hop culture that set the sporty-chic trend this season. From Alexander Wang's witty and naughty message plastered on his signature sheer croptop, to Kenzo's bloggers-must-have tiger sweater, to Jeremy Scott's controversial take on Moschino collection this season, and to Tom Ford's lyrics T-shirt inspired reversely by the brand-inspired rap song "Tom Ford", we have witnessed too many in-your-face, loud-and-proud designer slogan pieces this season. And the off-duty streetwear makes it a more bold, playful, and personal look.

So if you are feeling too cool to be colloquial, go ahead and put on pieces that SCREAM “status".
